I was working on the Creative Team at Euro RSCG and was pulled in to work on Advertising Campaign Ideas for Bayer Aspirin. The Creative Brief said Bayer wanted to be seen as “Unique and Distinctive” in the over-the-counter pain killer space. While researching the product, I was intriqued by the fact that Bayer aspirin had been relieving pain since 1899. The longest continuous brand history over all other aspirin! I also learned that the word Aspirin was actually Bayer’s brand name. However, Bayer’s rights to the trademark were lost or sold over time.
While googling around, I was inspired by images of marketing materials and product packaging from back in the early 1900’s for Bayer and other products.
Then an idea sparked of taking significant historical events with famous historical figures and embellishing the story with how Bayer aspirin was there, helping ease the pain. I spent quite a bit of time viewing images at the Time Life Archives to find great historical images that might tell the Bayer story. These executions followed.
